If you’re planning where to eat this Chinese New Year, Penang Marriott Hotel is lining up a series of festive menus for the Year of the Horse, running from January through February. Spread across several of the hotel’s restaurants, the programme is designed to suit different kinds of gatherings — whether that’s a simple family meal or a full reunion dinner with a big table.
The headline offering is the Prosperity Buffet Dinner, served in the evenings from February 16 to 18. It’s a straightforward take on Chinese New Year dining, with familiar dishes done well and live cooking stations keeping things moving.
Expect steamed fish with supreme soy sauce, tiger prawns and longevity noodles prepared on the spot, followed by desserts like triple chocolate firecracker entremets and tropical fruit sweets. The buffet is priced at RM268 nett per adult and RM128 nett for seniors and children.
Earlier in the season, Sago offers a more relaxed option with the Prosperity Chef’s Daily Special, available for lunch and dinner from January 19 to February 13.
The three-course set menu keeps things balanced, starting with salads or soups such as golden pumpkin salad or fish maw soup.
Mains include poached salmon, cod fish and assam pedas, with mandarin pavlova and fortune cookies mille feuille to finish. Smoked salmon yee sang is also on the menu during this period, for those who want to keep the traditional toss part of the celebration.
If you’re dining with a larger group, the Prosperity Special Menu is designed for tables of ten and runs from January 19 to February 28.
These seven- or eight-course dinners focus on shared dishes, including steamed golden pomfret, wok-fried slipper lobster and classic claypot rice — the kind of spread that suits long meals and easy conversation.
There are smaller festive touches elsewhere around the hotel. Lava Java has seasonal hampers for gifting and a Prosperity Iced Tea available through the New Year period.
Kucina adds a Chinese New Year spin to afternoon tea with the Tè Pomeridiano della Fortuna, while The Great Room introduces a short list of themed cocktails, available by the glass or as part of a group deal.
Set along Gurney Drive in George Town, Penang Marriott Hotel brings these dining options together in one place, making it an easy choice if food is the main focus of your New Year plans. Reservations can be made directly with the hotel or via marriott.com/penmc.
