Nvidia is close to finalising a US$20 billion investment in OpenAI as part of the artificial intelligence firm’s latest fundraising round, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
According to the report, Nvidia’s contribution is almost complete, although the transaction has yet to be finalised and the terms could still change.
The development follows comments made earlier in the day by Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang, who told CNBC that the chipmaker would consider investing in OpenAI’s next funding round as well as the startup’s eventual initial public offering.
His remarks came amid recent reports suggesting the deal had previously stalled.
Nvidia had announced in September last year that it planned to invest up to US$100 billion in OpenAI, underscoring the strategic importance of the partnership as demand for advanced AI computing continues to surge.
Neither Nvidia nor OpenAI responded immediately to requests for comment from Reuters.
