Columbia Asia Hospital Cheras has officially opened its new wing, expanding its capacity and specialist services as healthcare demand rises in Cheras and surrounding areas.
The expansion was officiated by Deputy Health Minister Dato’ Hanifah Hajar Taib, alongside Columbia Asia Hospital Cheras Regional Chief Executive Officer Engku Marina Engku Hatim and Asia OneHealthcare Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer Dr Chan Boon Kheng.
The hospital said the development comes amid population growth, ageing demographics and increasingly complex medical needs in fast-developing urban communities.
“In a fast-growing community like Cheras, timely access to quality healthcare matters more than ever. This expansion is not just about increasing capacity, but about strengthening our ability to respond to more complex healthcare needs, support earlier intervention, and deliver better outcomes for the communities we serve,” said Engku Marina Engku Hatim.
The new four-storey block with three basement levels increases the hospital’s capacity from 78 beds to 180 beds. This includes three additional isolation beds, 56 single rooms and eight beds in an ambulatory surgical care unit.
Specialist clinics have also been expanded alongside a dedicated health screening centre aimed at improving preventive care and early detection. A dialysis centre is under development and is expected to begin operations by end-2026.
New subspecialties introduced include neurosurgery, gynae-oncology, maternal-fetal medicine, hand and microsurgery, orthopaedic trauma, breast and endocrine surgery.
“As we mark 30 years of serving communities across Malaysia, this expansion reflects how Columbia Asia continues to evolve to meet changing healthcare needs. It is not just an investment in infrastructure, but a long-term commitment to keeping quality and trusted care accessible for the communities we serve,” said Dr Chan Boon Kheng.
The hospital is part of Asia OneHealthcare’s network of 32 hospitals across the region.
