The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has intensified its crackdown on unlicensed photographers, issuing 19 compounds and seizing 32 pieces of equipment during a joint enforcement operation around the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) area on the night of June 20.
The integrated operation was conducted at Pintasan Saloma, Jalan Ampang and Jalan P Ramlee, alongside participation with the police and the National Registration Department (NRD).
DBKL said enforcement action was taken against individuals offering photography services without valid permits in public areas. A total of 19 compound notices were issued to Malaysian citizens, while authorities confiscated 32 items linked to the activity, including mobile phones, lighting equipment and gimbals. Of the seized items, 13 were connected to foreign nationals.
The offences were investigated under the Federal Territories Hawkers Licensing By-Laws 2016.
During the operation, police and NRD officers also inspected 32 individuals and verified their identification documents under the National Registration Act 1959.
DBKL said it remains committed to monitoring and taking action against illegal photography services, which it said can create safety risks, obstruct pedestrian movement and disrupt traffic flow in busy public areas frequented by tourists and visitors.
All confiscated equipment has been transferred to DBKL’s storage facility for further documentation and enforcement procedures.
The city hall urged members of the public to continue reporting illegal activities through its official complaint channels as part of efforts to ensure public spaces remain orderly, safe and accessible.
