Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker XPeng is aiming to begin mass production of its “flying” cars as early as next year, with more than 7,000 orders already secured, mostly from China, Reuters reported.
President Brian Gu said the company is working with aviation authorities to obtain regulatory approvals, positioning the flying vehicle segment as a key pillar of its future mobility strategy.
Beyond aerial mobility, Xpeng is also accelerating its push into robotics and autonomous driving, with the company planning to start large-scale production of humanoid robots by the fourth quarter of 2026, initially deploying them in customer-facing roles such as reception and sales.
Robotaxi development is also underway, with test runs scheduled in Guangzhou this year. Xpeng expects 2027 to be a critical year for global testing with partners and plans to produce hundreds to thousands of robotaxis over the next 12 to 18 months.
Looking ahead, Gu said the robotics business could eventually surpass its automotive segment over the next 10 to 20 years, driven by broader real-world applications.
