Blue Chips Ease, Broader Market Weakens In Muted Bursa Midday Session

Bursa Malaysia traded lower at midday on Tuesday, with all major indices in negative territory as selling pressure broadened across large and mid-cap counters amid cautious regional sentiment.

The FBMKLCI slipped 2.08 points or 0.12% to 1,737.69. The FBM70 fell more sharply, down 110.58 points or 0.61% to 18,154.63, reflecting weakness in broader market constituents.

The FBMEMAS Index declined 31.53 points or 0.25% to 12,816.24, while the FBMSHA eased 40.49 points or 0.32% to 12,783.96. The F4GBM Index also drifted lower, shedding 2.31 points or 0.22% to 1,035.57.

Market breadth remained soft, with most heavyweights trading in the red during the session.

Among the most active counters, Zetrix fell 1 sen to RM0.850, Straits dropped 2.5 sen to RM0.050 while GIIB gained 3 sen to RM0.190 on strong volume. Tanco added 1 sen to RM1.620 while Velesto was unchanged at RM0.330.

Top gainers were led by Hong Leong Industries, up 34 sen to RM18.040, followed by Dutch Lady which rose 22 sen to RM32.740. Petronas Chemicals advanced 15 sen to RM5.850 while Petronas Dagangan and United Plantations added 14 sen each.

On the losing end, Nestle fell RM1.80 to RM102.000, MPI dropped 52 sen to RM37.480 while Hong Leong Bank eased 22 sen to RM22.080. Vitrox declined 22 sen to RM5.540 and Khind slipped 18 sen to RM1.290.
