The Immigration Department has detained 152 foreign nationals in a raid on a high-end entertainment centre operating within a hotel in the Changkat area of Kuala Lumpur, following allegations of prostitution-related activities involving foreign nationals.
Immigration Director General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the 1:30am operation was conducted after two weeks of intelligence gathering and public complaints.
“A total of 243 individuals were inspected during the raid, comprising 194 foreigners and 49 locals. Of those, 152 foreigners were detained, including 129 Chinese nationals, two Taiwanese, five Vietnamese, five Myanmar nationals, eight Bangladeshis and one each from Indonesia, Turkey and Vanuatu.
“All detainees, aged between 21 and 32, were held under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963, with 17 witness summonses also issued,” Zakaria shared.
Zakaria said the entertainment venue, operating across the first to sixth floors of a hotel, had been in operation for about three months and catered exclusively to VVIP customers, with access tightly controlled.
All detainees were sent to the Putrajaya Immigration Detention Depot for further investigation, with action will be taken against illegal immigrants, overstayers and any parties found to be harbouring or employing undocumented foreigners.
