The Education Ministry (MOE) has announced 12 initiatives to empower and strengthen the teaching profession by focusing on professional development, digital transformation and improved school infrastructure.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the Google Certified Educator Level 1 and Level 2 certification programmes will continue to be offered free of charge to all teachers as part of efforts to enhance digital literacy, with the government absorbing costs of RM40 per teacher for Level 1 and RM100 for Level 2.
She also announced a special Federal Training Award for teachers serving in challenging postings, including hospital schools, floating schools and remote rural schools. Selected educators will be given opportunities to pursue Master’s and PhD studies to strengthen education delivery in underserved areas.
“The ministry will also expand the Federal Teaching Scholarship to school leaders, including headmasters, principals and senior assistants, to pursue postgraduate studies in leadership-related fields,” she said.
To address digital access challenges, she revealed that MOE will introduce the Network Offline Digital Environment system to ensure continuity of digital learning in schools without internet access.
The initiative, supported by Tun Hussein Onn Teachers Foundation, will receive RM1 million in funding and target schools in rural and island areas under the “school constraint” programme.
For infrastructure upgrades, RM169 million has been allocated to supply digital devices to schools nationwide next year, while RM100 million has been set aside for maintenance and upgrading of teachers’ rooms and RM50 million for the upkeep of teacher quarters.
Fadhlina also highlighted that MOE will also abolish the manual system for recording co-curricular activities, granting schools autonomy to manage records before submitting data into the physical activity, sports and co-curricular assessment system.
“An additional RM10.5 million will fund reading materials for 10,515 preschool classes under the Empowering Preschool Reading Culture literacy programme, while RM122.4 million has been allocated for the first phase of co-curricular programme implementation starting next year,” she said, while revealing that Tun Hussein Onn Teachers Foundation will provide RM1,000 assistance to teachers whose children score 10A in SPM 2025, while a 50% discount on school canteen rental fees will be implemented for the first six months to help maintain affordable meal pricing.
