Netflix Unleashes First Look At Live-Action Scooby-Doo

Netflix has released the first teaser for Scooby-Doo: Origins, giving the clearest look yet at its live-action reworking of the long-running franchise. The short clip introduces a key shift: Scooby-Doo is being portrayed as a real Great Dane for the first time, marking a major change for a character that has spent more than 50 years in animation.

The teaser is set near a summer camp and follows a young Scooby as he moves through woodland before encountering Norville “Shaggy” Rogers. The moment establishes the early connection between the pair, ending with Scooby in Shaggy’s arms wearing his signature teal collar.

The show is positioned as an origin story for Mystery Inc., taking place during Shaggy and Daphne Blake’s final summer at camp. Their story begins with a missing Great Dane puppy linked to a darker mystery, pulling in Velma Dinkley and Fred Jones as the investigation unfolds.

The case gradually brings the group together as they uncover events that point to something more serious than a standard disappearance.

The cast features Tanner Hagen as Shaggy, McKenna Grace as Daphne, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred. Paul Walter Hauser also appears in an undisclosed role. Production began in Atlanta in April.

Behind the series are showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, with executive production from Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner and Adrienne Erickson. Toby Haynes directs the opening episode.

Scooby-Doo: Origins is set to premiere in 2027.
