5.2-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Indonesia, No Tsunami Threat To Malaysia

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck the Talaud Islands, Indonesia, at 9.56am today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In a post on X, MetMalaysia said the earthquake’s epicentre was located at 4.9 degrees North and 125.6 degrees East, at a depth of 10 kilometres.

The department said the quake occurred about 140 kilometres northwest of the Talaud Islands, Indonesia.

MetMalaysia also confirmed that the earthquake poses no tsunami threat to Malaysia.

The department advised the public to refer to its official earthquake monitoring platforms for the latest updates on seismic activity.
