Malaysia’s Hamidin Takes On FIFA-Appointed Leadership Role At World Cup 2026

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) honorary president Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin has been appointed as head of delegation and FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s representative for selected venues at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.

Hamidin said FIFA President Gianni Infantino had assigned him to ensure the smooth running of matches in Los Angeles and San Francisco in his capacity as a FIFA Council member.

“This edition involves 16 venues across long distances, and that is why I have been appointed head of delegation and FIFA President’s representative for Los Angeles and San Francisco.

“My role includes monitoring matches at both venues from the group stage. I will be based in Los Angeles up to the quarter-finals and remain involved through to the semi-finals and final,” he told Bernama recently.

The appointment places Hamidin in a key operational role during the tournament, which spans multiple cities across the United States and marks the largest World Cup in history with 48 teams participating.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup officially kicked off with Mexico facing South Africa in the opening Group A match at 3 am Malaysian time, setting the tone for a month-long tournament staged across 16 host cities.
