Malaysia Looks To US-Iran Agreement Signing As Path To Regional Stability

Malaysia has welcomed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the US and Iran and is looking ahead to the formal signing of the agreement in Switzerland on June 19 as a key step towards broader negotiations and a lasting settlement in West Asia.

In a statement, Malaysia described the MoU as a significant move towards de-escalation and expressed hope that subsequent negotiations and implementation measures would contribute to regional stability, freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and stronger global energy security.

Malaysia also acknowledged the roles played by Pakistan, Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and other regional countries in supporting diplomatic efforts and dialogue between the parties.

The government said it welcomed the commitment shown by all sides to reduce tensions and advance peace through diplomacy.

According to Malaysia, the next phase will involve verification of initial implementation measures, including maritime security arrangements, phased sanctions relief and other confidence-building steps outlined by the parties.

The government said successful implementation could help secure a durable cessation of hostilities, strengthen stability across the region and support the global economy.

Malaysia reiterated its position that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect, and said it remains ready to support initiatives that promote international peace, security and prosperity.
