The Ministry of Communications, through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, will fully cover medicine delivery costs for 80,000 eligible patients under the Postal Medicine Programme (UMP) starting July 1.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the initiative, which carries an estimated annual cost of RM5.69 million, is aimed at easing the financial burden on patients who previously had to pay for medicine delivery services themselves.
“The estimated annual cost of RM5.69 million will be fully borne by the Ministry of Communications and MCMC,” he said.
Fahmi said the programme is expected to be rolled out nationwide by July, ensuring patients no longer have to bear delivery charges, with the government absorbing the full cost.
According to Fahmi, the selection of eligible patients will be determined entirely by the Ministry of Health, while medicine deliveries will be carried out by Pos Malaysia, which operates under a licence regulated by MCMC.
Earlier, Fahmi witnessed the signing of the MoU between MCMC and the Ministry of Health for the implementation of PERSADA.
The initiative is designed to strengthen Malaysia’s digital healthcare ecosystem by improving internet access and connectivity across healthcare facilities nationwide.
Through collaboration between the Ministry of Health and MCMC, PERSADA will also support the implementation of electronic medical records (EMR), telehealth services and other digital initiatives aimed at improving public access to more efficient and effective healthcare services.
