The stock market ended the trading session on a positive note, with gainers clearly outpacing losers amid selective buying in semiconductor and technology-related stocks.
At the closing bell, the broader market recorded 798 gainers against 478 losers, while 470 counters were unchanged, signalling sustained investor appetite in key sectors despite pockets of weakness.
Leading the gainers’ list was Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI), which rose RM1.50 to RM49, supported by active trading volume of around 606,300 shares. Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd advanced 76 sen to RM27.50, while UMS Integration Limited climbed 68 sen to RM8.70.
Technology counters also featured prominently, with UWC Bhd gaining 60 sen to RM6.20 and Pentamaster Corporation Bhd rising 52 sen to RM4.83 amid strong turnover.
On the downside, Nestlé (M) Bhd slipped RM1.10 to RM94.50, while Paragon Union Bhd lost 98 sen to RM2.29.
Heavyweight losses were led by Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd, which dropped 82 sen to RM4.52, and Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd, down 57 sen to RM8.40, both weighed down by broad sectoral pressure.
Despite selective selling in large caps, overall market breadth remained firmly positive, underscoring continued investor interest in mid- and small-cap technology and manufacturing stocks.
