Commuters in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor are advised to brace for possible traffic congestion this evening after the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a thunderstorm warning for several parts of the Klang Valley until 5pm today.
Thunderstorms are forecast in Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Sepang in Selangor, as well as Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
The warning also extends to Perlis, Penang and Perak, as well as Kedah’s Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Yan, Kuala Muda, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu.
On the East Coast, affected areas include Jeli, Machang, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang in Kelantan; Besut, Setiu and Hulu Terengganu in Terengganu; and Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Bentong and Rompin in Pahang.
The warning also covers Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau in Negeri Sembilan, along with Segamat in Johor.
In Sarawak, the affected areas are Lundu in Kuching Division, Simunjan in Samarahan Division and Betong.
Meanwhile, in Sabah, thunderstorms are expected in Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Tambunan in the Interior Division, the West Coast Division, as well as Kota Marudu and Kudat in the Kudat Division.
MetMalaysia said the warning was issued following indications of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that are occurring or expected to persist for more than one hour.
The warning is a short-term alert and remains valid for a period not exceeding six hours from the time of issuance.
