The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has appointed technology entrepreneur Ganesh Kumar Bangah as its new Non-Executive Chairman, strengthening the agency’s leadership as Malaysia accelerates its ambition to become an AI-driven nation by 2030.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said Ganesh’s extensive experience in building technology companies and digital platforms would help MDEC align government priorities with industry needs.
“Ganesh’s appointment reflects the Government’s commitment to ensuring that MDEC continues to be guided by strong industry experience and expertise as Malaysia enters the next phase of digital economy growth,” he said in a statement.
Ganesh, who has served as an MDEC board member since February 2025, is also a board member of PayNet and previously chaired the National Tech Association of Malaysia (PIKOM).
Widely regarded as one of Malaysia’s pioneering technology entrepreneurs, he founded MOL Global Inc., which grew into one of Southeast Asia’s leading online payment gateways, before expanding into e-commerce, social commerce and digital growth ventures.
Ganesh said Malaysia possesses the talent, entrepreneurial strength and digital foundations to become a stronger digital economy and AI-powered nation.
“Our next phase of growth must be driven by stronger public-private collaboration, greater support for local technology companies and wider digital adoption among businesses, particularly SMEs,” he said.
MDEC Chief Executive Officer Anuar Fariz Fadzil said Ganesh’s appointment would help the agency remain agile and closely aligned with the evolving needs of the technology sector.
The appointment was also welcomed by PIKOM, with its chairman Adjunct Practice Professor Alex Liew describing Ganesh as a proven industry leader with deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Malaysia’s technology ecosystem.
