Klang Valley and much of Malaysia’s west coast are bracing for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds this afternoon, with the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issuing a weather warning valid until 5pm today.
The warning covers the entire states of Perlis and Penang, as well as several districts in Kedah, including Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu. In Perak, affected areas include Kerian, Larut, Matang dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim.
In the Klang Valley region, thunderstorms are expected in Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat, while neighbouring Negeri Sembilan districts of Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Jempol and Tampin are also under alert.
Pahang’s Cameron Highlands, Raub, Bentong and Rompin, along with Johor’s Mersing and Kota Tinggi, are also forecast to experience adverse weather conditions.
In East Malaysia, the warning extends across multiple areas in Sarawak, including Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang. Several parts of Sabah, including the Interior, West Coast, Tawau, Sandakan and Kudat divisions, as well as Labuan, are also expected to be affected.
MetMalaysia said thunderstorm warnings are issued when rainfall intensity is expected to exceed 20mm per hour and persist for more than an hour. The advisory is a short-term warning and remains valid for a period not exceeding six hours.
