Magnitude 5.0 Quake Strikes Southern Sumatra, No Tsunami Threat To Malaysia

A moderate magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck southern Sumatra, Indonesia, at 9.40am today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the earthquake’s epicentre was located at latitude 4.9 degrees South and longitude 103.3 degrees East, about 101km south of Pagar Alam, Indonesia.

The quake occurred at a depth of 10km.

MetMalaysia confirmed that the earthquake poses no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
