Toy Story 5 Is Off To A Flying Start With US$312M Worldwide

The weekend box office has a clear winner. According to Deadline, Toy Story 5 stormed into cinemas with a US$312 million global debut, making it Pixar’s second-biggest opening ever and giving Disney its strongest worldwide launch of the year.

The latest adventure featuring Woody, Buzz and Jessie pulled in US$160 million in North America and another US$152 million overseas, quickly establishing itself as the movie audiences showed up for this weekend.

The film topped the box office in nearly every major market, with Mexico emerging as its biggest international territory at US$26.6 million. China added US$18 million, marking the strongest opening of 2026 so far for a Hollywood studio release in the market, while the UK delivered a solid US$20 million start.

What’s especially notable is that the film’s success came despite concerns that the ongoing FIFA World Cup could pull audiences away from cinemas. While some match days affected attendance in certain territories, moviegoers still turned out in large numbers, particularly across Latin America, where Toy Story 5 dominated ticket sales throughout the weekend.

The family blockbuster wasn’t just the biggest new release — it comfortably outpaced the competition.

Universal’s sci-fi thriller Disclosure Day added US$35.7 million globally in its second weekend, pushing its worldwide total to US$160.4 million. Horror hit Obsession continued its strong run with another US$25.1 million worldwide, while Paramount’s Scary Movie crossed the US$200 million mark globally after earning US$15.8 million during its third weekend in cinemas.

Meanwhile, Lionsgate’s Michael Jackson biopic Michael is edging closer to a major milestone. The film brought in US$13.6 million globally this weekend, lifting its worldwide total to US$959.6 million and putting the US$1 billion mark firmly within reach.

For now, though, the conversation belongs to Toy Story 5. Nearly 30 years after the franchise first arrived in cinemas, audiences are still showing up in force.
