Malaysia Sets Up Advisory Panel To Strengthen Islamic Finance Ambitions

Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) have convened the inaugural meeting of the Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre (MIFC) Advisory Panel, marking a coordinated push to reinforce Malaysia’s position in global Islamic finance.

The newly formed Advisory Panel serves as an inter-agency platform aimed at strengthening Malaysia’s role as an international gateway and marketplace for Islamic finance. It brings together government bodies, regulators and key industry institutions to align strategic direction and policy execution.

At the meeting held on 22 June 2026, members discussed the panel’s core responsibilities, including providing strategic guidance for the MIFC Business Network, aligning industry initiatives with national economic priorities and advancing cross-border opportunities to support global participation in Islamic finance.

The panel is also tasked with addressing industry challenges and offering practical recommendations to accelerate sector growth, with a focus on strengthening Malaysia’s competitiveness in the global Islamic finance landscape.

Co-chaired by BNM and the SC, the Advisory Panel includes representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, Bursa Malaysia, Employees Provident Fund, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan), Permodalan Nasional Berhad, Lembaga Tabung Haji and Labuan Financial Services Authority. It also includes business envoys Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar and Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar.

The establishment of the panel coincides with the transition of the MIFC Leadership Council into the MIFC Business Network, signalling a shift towards a more industry-led framework supported by public sector collaboration.

According to BNM and the SC, the evolution is intended to improve execution of strategic priorities and unlock new business opportunities while reinforcing Malaysia’s positioning as a globally connected Islamic finance hub.
