Torrential Rain, Thunderstorms To Drench Northern States This Afternoon

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several northern states and parts of Sarawak, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until 4pm today.

The warning covers Perlis, Kedah, Penang, and parts of Perak, including Kerian, Larut, Matang dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah and Kampar.

In Pahang, the affected area is Cameron Highlands.

In Sarawak, the warning covers Kapit, Bukit Mabong and Belaga in Kapit Division; Tatau and Sebauh in Bintulu Division; Beluru, Miri and Marudi in Miri Division; as well as Limbang.

MetMalaysia said the alert was issued following indications of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour, which are expected to last for more than an hour.

The department advised the public to remain vigilant and monitor the latest weather updates.
