The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning, with heavy rain and strong winds expected across several states in Peninsular Malaysia until 4pm today.
Affected areas include Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Penang, Perak, Kelantan (Jeli and Kuala Krai), Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu, Marang and Dungun), and Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Jerantut, Maran, Kuantan and Rompin).
The warning also covers Selangor (Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak and Petaling), Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Jempol and Tampin), Melaka, and Johor (Segamat, Batu Pahat, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru).
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour that are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour. The warning is valid for a period not exceeding six hours from the time of issuance.
