Residents in Perlis, parts of Kedah and Penang have been warned to brace for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds until noon today.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), the affected areas in Kedah include Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Yan, Pendang and Kuala Muda.
The weather warning, which remains in effect until 12pm on Wednesday, was issued following indications of thunderstorms capable of producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour for more than an hour.
MetMalaysia said thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts, valid for a period of no more than six hours from the time of issuance.
