Civil Servants Credited For Lifting Malaysia’s Global Competitive Status

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has credited Malaysia’s civil service for the country’s improved performance in the 2026 World Competitiveness Ranking published by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD), Bernama reported.

Speaking at the Sesi Santai Mesra Perdana Menteri dan Ketua Setiausaha Negara bersama Warga Perkhidmatan Awam Zon Selatan at the Public Works Department’s Centre of Excellence for Engineering and Technology (CREaTE) in Simpang Ampat, Anwar said the achievement reflected the efficiency and commitment of public servants across the country.

Malaysia climbed eight places to 15th in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2026 from 23rd last year.

Anwar said the improvement had also been recognised by Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov during his recent visit to the Central Asian nation.

“President Serdar mentioned the World Competitiveness Index and said Malaysia had performed very well. I thanked him, but I know this happened because of the public service team and their efficiency,” he said.

The Prime Minister stressed that the country’s progress over the past three and a half years was not the result of any individual effort but was driven by a strong administrative system and teamwork within the civil service.

“Our performance is not because Anwar is the Prime Minister. It is because of the system, the team and the civil servants. The efficiency and service delivered are not the result of my efforts alone, but the collective contribution of the entire team throughout the country,” he said.
