The Malaysia Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning until 6pm today, with heavy rain and strong winds expected across several states.
The warning covers Perlis; Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling and Kulim), Penang (Seberang Perai Utara); Perak (Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak and Batang Padang); Terengganu (Besut, Setiu and Kuala Nerus).
Meanwhile, the warning also extends to Selangor (Gombak, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Sepang), Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan (Jempol and Tampin), Johor (Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian and Kulai), as well as parts of Sarawak, covering Julau (Sarikei), Kanowit (Sibu), Song (Kapit) and Subis (Miri).
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour that are imminent or expected to last for more than an hour.
Thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts and are valid for no more than six hours from the time they are issued.
