Fuel subsidies, national energy security, economic resilience and institutional reforms are among the key issues set to dominate proceedings in the Dewan Rakyat today as Members of Parliament question ministers on a wide range of national concerns.
During Minister’s Question Time, the Finance Ministry is expected to face questions on the government’s decision to standardise targeted fuel subsidies through MyKad, including whether the 200-litre quota for petrol and diesel is sufficient for consumers. The Economy Ministry will also be asked about measures introduced through the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) to address job losses and business downsizing amid global economic uncertainty.
Energy transition policies will also come under scrutiny, with questions on the progress of the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS), battery energy storage systems and efforts to position Malaysia as a regional data centre hub.
Among the issues attracting attention in the oral question session are the implementation status of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), proposals to increase parliamentary representation for Sabah and Sarawak, Malaysia’s policy towards Myanmar and initiatives to strengthen national data sovereignty as the country pursues its ambition of becoming an AI-ready nation by 2030.
The Prime Minister’s Department is also expected to respond to questions on political financing legislation, Prime Minister term limits, electoral boundary redelineation, MACC reforms and cybersecurity measures following rising online crime losses.
Food security remains another major theme, with MPs seeking updates on rice supply, fertiliser imports, onion cultivation, smart farming technologies, paddy irrigation projects and the country’s preparedness against global food supply disruptions.
Defence matters are also high on the agenda, including questions on the Littoral Combat Ship programme, naval missile procurement issues, veterans’ welfare and Malaysia’s readiness to respond to evolving regional geopolitical challenges.
