A Singapore-registered container vessel, Ever Lovely, sustained damage to its bridge area after being struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, authorities said on June 26.
According to CNA, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said the incident occurred at around 10pm Singapore time on June 25 as the ship was exiting the strategic waterway. The vessel has since completed its transit and continued its voyage, with all 21 crew members safe and no Singaporeans onboard.
According to preliminary assessments by shipowner Evergreen Marine Corp, the strike caused damage to the eaves of the bridge superstructure and bridge windows. While the navigation bridge sustained damage, the company said the vessel’s main engine and navigation systems remained fully operational, with no impact to seaworthiness or cargo integrity.
MPA described the incident as “unprovoked, unjustifiable and a breach of international law”, adding that it is in close contact with the vessel’s management and ready to provide assistance.
Ever Lovely was reportedly following the UK Maritime Trade Operations’ recommended route when it was hit while off the coast of Oman. The vessel is owned by Taiwan-based Evergreen Marine.
The incident comes amid heightened maritime tensions in the region, prompting the United Nations to temporarily pause evacuation efforts for trapped mariners to reassess safety conditions. The International Maritime Organisation said the suspension was to ensure “necessary safety guarantees” remain in place.
Iran-linked maritime authorities have warned that vessels deviating from designated routes will not be covered by safe passage assurances, further underscoring risks in the critical shipping corridor.
