The government will roll out a RM32 million rebate programme from July 1, offering RM200 to households purchasing energy-efficient air conditioners and refrigerators under the NUR@PETRA 2026 Domestic Programme.
The initiative, implemented by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) through the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA Malaysia), will provide 160,000 rebates to eligible domestic consumers.
Households can claim the rebate when purchasing air conditioners or refrigerators carrying four- or five-star energy efficiency labels certified by the Energy Commission (ST) or the Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS).
PETRA said the programme forms part of the government’s efforts to help households cope with rising energy costs and global energy market uncertainties stemming from geopolitical tensions in West Asia, while supporting Malaysia’s energy transition agenda.
The ministry said the initiative aims to encourage greater adoption of energy-efficient appliances, reduce household electricity bills and promote sustainable energy consumption.
Over five years, the programme is expected to save 552.25 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity, translating into RM250.72 million in electricity bill savings.
It is also projected to reduce 408,655 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions, subject to the lifespan and operating efficiency of the appliances.
Applications for the rebate open on July 1, with details on eligibility, application procedures and the list of approved brands and models available on SEDA Malaysia’s official website.
