Malaysia Urges Travellers To Thailand To Stay Alert As Heavy Rain Raises Flood Risk

Malaysians travelling to or currently in Thailand have been urged to remain vigilant as heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast across parts of the country from June 28 to July 3, raising the risk of flash floods and landslides.

According to a statement by the Malaysian Consulate General in Songkhla, Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has warned that the prolonged downpours could trigger flash floods, widespread flooding, forest runoff, landslides and strong waves along the Andaman Sea coastline.

The consulate advised Malaysians in Thailand, particularly those in high-risk areas, to closely monitor the latest weather updates and comply with instructions issued by Thai authorities.

Travellers were also encouraged to obtain adequate travel insurance before departing to minimise potential financial losses or disruptions arising from unforeseen weather-related incidents.

As a precaution, Malaysians were urged to avoid visiting waterfalls, caves, hillsides, rivers and beaches identified as high-risk areas, especially if weather conditions deteriorate or local authorities impose safety restrictions.

The consulate said Malaysians requiring consular assistance may contact its duty officer for immediate support.
