Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to batter several states across northern and central Peninsular Malaysia until 1pm today, according to the Malaysia Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
The weather warning covers the whole of Perlis and Penang, as well as several districts in Kedah, namely Yan, Kuala Muda and Bandar Baharu.
In Selangor, the affected areas are Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Petaling, Kuala Langat and Sepang.
Meanwhile, in Perak, the warning applies to Kerian, Larut, Matang dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak.
MetMalaysia said the warning was issued after weather conditions indicated thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour were imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
The department noted that thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories, with each issuance remaining valid for no longer than six hours.
