ENGIE has announced a leadership reshuffle in Southeast Asia and its Supply & Energy Management business in Asia Pacific following the departure of long-serving executive Varun Gujral.
Effective July 1, Jacques Boonen will take on the additional role of Country Manager for Southeast Asia while continuing as Managing Director of Local Energy Infrastructures Southeast Asia. Jules Dufournier has also been appointed Managing Director of Supply & Energy Management Asia Pacific.
The changes come after Gujral concluded a 14-year tenure with the company, during which he helped establish and expand ENGIE’s Supply & Energy Management business across Asia Pacific, including strategic markets such as Japan and India. He also served as Country Manager for Southeast Asia and Chief Executive Officer of Supply & Energy Management Asia Pacific.
Regional Vice President, Transformation and Geographies, Africa and APAC Rik De Buyserie said Gujral had made “a significant contribution to ENGIE’s development in Asia Pacific and laid a strong foundation for future growth in the region.”
“On behalf of ENGIE, I would like to thank Varun for his leadership and everything he has built over the last 14 years. I am pleased to welcome Jacques as Country Manager for Southeast Asia. His leadership experience positions ENGIE well for the opportunities ahead,” he said.
Boonen joined ENGIE in 2008 and has held senior leadership positions across Europe, North America and Asia. Since 2025, he has led the company’s Local Energy Infrastructures division in Southeast Asia, focusing on low-carbon infrastructure and decarbonisation solutions.
Dufournier, who joined ENGIE in 2002, has more than 25 years of experience in energy markets and has held leadership roles across Europe and Asia Pacific.
