Malaysia will continue to host the prestigious MotoGP World Championship for another five years till 2031, reinforcing the country’s position as a key destination for international motorsport events and sports tourism.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports said the extension reflects Malaysia’s long-standing partnership with MotoGP and its commitment to developing the motorsport ecosystem while generating economic opportunities through international sporting events.
The continued hosting of the PETRONAS Grand Prix of Malaysia at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) is expected to attract thousands of local and international fans, while strengthening Malaysia’s reputation as a regional hub for motorsport.
The ministry said the event has consistently contributed to tourism activities, including increased demand for accommodation, transportation, hospitality and retail services during the race weekend.
Beyond tourism impact, MotoGP also provides a platform for Malaysia to promote local talent development, technical expertise and participation in the wider motorsport industry.
The five-year extension is seen as a boost for Malaysia’s sports economy, with the country continuing to leverage major international events to support job creation, business opportunities and global visibility.
Sepang International Circuit, which first hosted MotoGP in 1999, has become one of the championship’s most recognised venues and remains a favourite among riders and fans due to its challenging layout and strong racing atmosphere.
