Klang Valley Under Thunderstorm Warning Until 9pm, Heavy Traffic Expected

Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to affect several states across Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah until 9pm today, according to the Malaysia Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

The warning covers parts of Perak (Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim), Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Krai), Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu and Marang), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Temerloh, Maran, Bera, Pekan and Rompin), Selangor (Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Petaling), Kuala Lumpur, and Johor (Mersing and Kota Tinggi).

In Sabah, the affected areas include the West Coast (Ranau), Tawau (Lahad Datu), Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan), and Kudat (Kota Marudu and Pitas).

MetMalaysia said the warning was issued after weather conditions indicated thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour were imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.

The department noted that thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories, with each issuance remaining valid for no longer than six hours.
