Bank Customers Still Charged RM1 ATM Withdrawals Should Complain To Bank Negara

Bank customers who are still being charged the RM1 fee for interbank ATM cash withdrawals despite its abolition have been urged to lodge complaints with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said.

Fahmi said the government had already announced the removal of the RM1 charge, and any customers who continue to incur the fee should immediately notify both their respective banks and the central bank for further investigation.

He said complaints from affected customers would enable Bank Negara to determine whether the charges were due to technical issues, operational errors or non-compliance by financial institutions.

The minister stressed that consumers should retain transaction receipts or bank statements showing the charge to facilitate investigations and expedite the resolution process.

Fahmi said Bank Negara, as the regulator of the banking sector, is responsible for ensuring financial institutions comply with directives and consumer protection requirements.

Fahmi said affected customers should not assume the charge is unavoidable and instead report the matter through the appropriate channels so corrective action can be taken where necessary.

He added that prompt reporting would also help regulators identify if the issue is isolated or affects a wider number of bank customers.
