Prof. Emeritus Datuk Dr. Mohd Yusof Othman has been appointed chairman of the Islamic Understanding Institute of Malaysia (IKIM), while Datuk Prof. Dr. Ashraf Md. Hashim has been named deputy chairman, effective June 18.
The appointment letters, approved by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, were presented by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Dr. Zulkifli Hasan today.
IKIM said the appointments reflect both leaders’ contributions to academia and Islamic thought, and are expected to strengthen the institute’s role as the country’s Islamic think tank.
Mohd Yusof is a prominent academic known for his work in science, renewable energy and Islamic thought, while Ashraf is a professor at INCEIF University with expertise in Syariah, Islamic finance and governance.
Three board members were also appointed during the ceremony, namely Datuk Misnu Taha (reappointed), Sakaria Samela and Associate Professor Dr. Nur Izura Udzir.
