The Malaysia Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until 7pm today.
The warning covers Besut and Setiu in Terengganu; Pekan and Rompin in Pahang; as well as Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru in Johor.
In Sarawak, the affected areas are Selangau in Sibu, Dalat and Mukah in Mukah, Bintulu, Beluru, Telang Usan and Marudi in Miri, as well as Limbang.
In Sabah, the warning covers Beaufort in the Interior, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran on the West Coast, as well as Sandakan.
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when weather conditions indicate thunderstorms with rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour. Each thunderstorm warning is valid for no more than six hours from the time of issuance.
