Perak and Kelantan Saw Temperatures Hit 34°C This Week

Several parts of Perak and Kelantan recorded maximum temperatures of above 34°C on Thursday, even as scattered thunderstorms brought heavy rain to other parts of the country, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In Perak, Lubuk Merbau, Sitiawan and L.T. Ipoh each recorded maximum temperatures of 34.3°C, while Kuala Krai in Kelantan emerged as the hottest location in Peninsular Malaysia at 34.6°C.

Elsewhere, hot conditions also persisted in Sarawak, where Mulu registered 34.8°C, followed by Limbang at 34.5°C and Kuching, Sri Aman and Sibu, which each recorded 34°C.

Despite the high temperatures, several areas also experienced significant rainfall. Mulu recorded the country’s highest daily rainfall at 60.8mm, followed by Kerteh, Terengganu with 54mm. Other notable rainfall totals included Batu Pahat, Johor (37.6mm), Langkawi (27.2mm), Kota Bharu (16.2mm) and Batu Embun (13mm).

In Sabah, rainfall was generally light, with Keningau receiving 3mm and Kudat 1.2mm, while most other monitoring stations reported dry condition.

The latest observations underscore Malaysia’s typical inter-monsoon weather pattern, with intense daytime heat occurring alongside localized heavy downpours across different parts of the country.
