Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain To Hit Parts Of Peninsula, Sabah And Sarawak Until Noon

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until 12pm today.

The affected areas in Peninsular Malaysia are Perak (Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak), Selangor (Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor), Negeri Sembilan (Port Dickson) and the whole of Melaka.

In East Malaysia, the warning covers parts of Sarawak, including Selangau in Sibu, Mukah, Kapit and Bintulu, as well as Sabah, involving Kuala Penyu and Beaufort in the Interior, Tawau, and Kinabatangan and Sandakan in Sandakan Division. Labuan is also under the warning.

MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms capable of producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour, either imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.

The department noted that thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories, with each issuance valid for no longer than six hours.
