Johor is set to swear in its new Menteri Besar at 3pm today, with Barisan Nasional (BN) Johor chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi widely expected to retain the post following the coalition’s landslide victory in the state election.
According to a WhatsApp invitation from the palace, the swearing-in ceremony will take place at Istana Bukit Serene, with members of the media instructed to gather at the palace’s Mahkota Gate for coverage.
The invitation did not identify the individual who will take the oath of office.
Earlier today, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, granted an audience to BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at Istana Pasir Pelangi. The meeting, which lasted nearly an hour, was also attended by Onn Hafiz.
The audience came a day after BN secured a commanding mandate in the Johor state election, winning 48 of the 56 seats contested to retain control of the state government with a bigger two-thirds majority.
