Wisma Putra Confirms No Malaysians Injured In Deadly Bangkok Fire

Ministry of Foreign Affairs is closely monitoring the aftermath of a massive fire that broke out at a commercial establishment in Bangkok, Thailand, with no Malaysians reported affected at this stage.

In a statement today, Wisma Putra said the incident, which occurred on July 12, has claimed at least 27 lives while 63 people have been hospitalised, including 22 victims reported to be in critical condition, according to Thai authorities.

The ministry said the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok is working closely with the relevant Thai authorities to determine whether any Malaysian nationals were involved in the tragedy.

“At this preliminary stage, the Ministry can confirm that there have been no reports of Malaysians affected by the fire,” the statement said.

Thai authorities have launched an official investigation to determine the cause of the blaze.

Wisma Putra said the Malaysian Embassy will continue to monitor developments and remain in close contact with local authorities as investigations continue.

The ministry also advised Malaysians residing in or travelling to Bangkok to remain vigilant, prioritise their personal safety and comply with all instructions issued by the Thai authorities.

It added that the embassy stands ready to provide consular assistance should the need arise and urged Malaysians in Thailand to remain in contact with the mission to facilitate timely communication if required.
