PM Anwar Urges Melaka DAP Councillors To Delay Resignation

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has appealed to the Democratic Action Party (DAP) executive councillors (exco) in Melaka to postpone any decision to resign from the state government, in an effort to preserve political stability while discussions continue.

Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, said he had personally requested the Melaka DAP leadership to defer any move to vacate their positions in the state executive council until the coalition had the opportunity to deliberate on the matter fully. He had also spoken to DAP leader Anthony Loke to have a chat with them and to delay their resignation until the general election.

Anwar stressed that any decision affecting the composition of the Melaka government should be handled carefully to avoid unnecessary disruption to governance and public administration.

He reiterated that discussions among Pakatan Harapan’s component parties remain ongoing, with the coalition seeking a consensus-based solution that safeguards political cooperation while ensuring the interests of the people of Melaka remain the priority.

The Melaka state government currently comprises representatives from Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan under a unity government arrangement established following the 2022 general election.
