The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of Penang, Perak, Selangor and Sarawak, with adverse weather conditions expected to persist until 3pm today.
The warning covers the districts of Barat Daya and Timur Laut in Penang; Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak in Perak; Sabak Bernam in Selangor; as well as Bintulu and the districts of Subis and Miri in Sarawak.
MetMalaysia said the affected areas are expected to experience thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds during the warning period.
The department said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour that are imminent or expected to last for more than an hour.
It added that thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories and are valid for no more than six hours from the time of issuance.
