The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several states and parts of Sarawak, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until noon today.
The warning covers Perlis, Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Yan and Kuala Muda), Penang, Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang dan Selama and Manjung), Kelantan (Gua Musang), as well as Sarawak involving Sri Aman, Kapit (Kapit) and Bintulu (Tatau).
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms capable of producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour that are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.
The department added that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts, with each issuance valid for no more than six hours.
