The government has given in-principle approval for the proposed Bandar Malaysia-Seri Kembangan Elevated Highway (BSE), an infrastructure project linking several major highway networks, including the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Highway, Maju Expressway (MEX), Besraya Expressway (BESRAYA), New Pantai Expressway (NPE), Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS) and the wider network of the Sistem Penyuraian Trafik Kuala Lumpur (SPRINT).
The elevated highway is expected to provide an alternative route for motorists and improve connectivity between the northern, southern and east coast corridors of Peninsular Malaysia.
The Government added that the proposed highway should be viewed not merely as the construction of a new road, but as a long-term investment in connectivity, inclusive development and the country’s economic competitiveness.
Following the in-principle approval, the Works Ministry, together with relevant agencies including the Public Private Partnership Unit (UKAS), will proceed with detailed negotiations and assessments to finalise the project’s implementation structure.
The Government said all aspects of the project would be comprehensively evaluated, particularly in terms of public interest, value for money and fiscal sustainability, before any final decision on implementation is made.
The proposed BSE is also based on a private-sector financing approach, which would ensure that its implementation does not involve a direct financial commitment from the Federal Government.
Meanwhile, the Government is also assessing several other infrastructure solutions on a selective basis to complement the road network and address traffic congestion in the Klang Valley.
These proposals will be considered based on strategic needs, capacity enhancement and their potential impact on traffic flow.
