The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of six states and the Federal Territory of Labuan, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until 3pm today.
The warning covers Perlis, Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar and Pokok Sena), Johor (Kota Tinggi), Sarawak (Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang), Sabah (Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Papar), as well as Labuan.
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are indications of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour, or when such conditions are expected to persist for more than an hour.
The department noted that thunderstorm warnings are short-term advisories and are valid for no longer than six hours from the time they are issued.
