Evening Thunderstorms Set To Snarl Klang Valley Traffic

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of the Klang Valley, with heavy rain and strong winds expected to persist until 6pm today.

The warning covers Gombak and Hulu Langat in Selangor, as well as Kuala Lumpur. Other affected areas include Perlis, Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu and Kota Setar), Jelebu in Negeri Sembilan, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru in Johor, and Kuching in Sarawak.

MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour, or when such conditions are expected to last for more than an hour.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to remain vigilant for possible flash floods, fallen trees and traffic disruptions during the period of adverse weather.

Thunderstorm warnings issued by MetMalaysia are short-term advisories and remain valid for no more than six hours from the time they are issued.
