Langkawi’s dining calendar is getting an international addition this August as Michelin-starred chef Taz Sarhane of London’s Cycene arrives for a two-day culinary residency at The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi.
Taking place on August 6 and 7, the event marks the launch of Threads of Taste, a new dining series that explores the cultural influences behind Malaysian cuisine through collaborations with international chefs.
The programme continues with Beyond The Bar, a two-night guest bartender collaboration featuring The St. Regis Bar Shenzhen Bao’an on August 7 and 8.
Sarhane’s menus draw on Langkawi’s local produce and coastal ingredients while reflecting the diverse influences that have shaped Malaysian food over generations. The dishes combine local seafood, tropical ingredients and regional flavours with techniques such as fermentation, preservation and open-fire cooking.
Among the dishes on the menu are raw prawns with green mango, crab rendang with coconut and peppercorn, lobster with lemongrass, and desserts featuring calamansi, mango and kaffir lime.
Sarhane is the head chef of Cycene, the London restaurant that earned one Michelin star for its seasonal tasting menus. His cooking is shaped by seasonal produce and his British-Moroccan heritage, with an emphasis on ingredient-led dishes.
The programme continues with Beyond The Bar, where bartenders Ethan Yi and Ayla Zhang from The St. Regis Bar Shenzhen Bao’an will take over Horizon for two evenings.
The collaboration will feature cocktails inspired by Langkawi alongside a selection of signature drinks from Shenzhen. A cocktail masterclass will also be held on August 8.
As hotels increasingly turn to guest chef collaborations and limited-time dining events, the Langkawi programme reflects a growing appetite for experiences that bring together international talent and local ingredients.
