The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for parts of Sarawak, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until 12pm today.

The affected areas are Simunjan in Samarahan division and Sri Aman.

MetMalaysia said the warning was issued following indications of thunderstorms capable of producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour, with the weather conditions expected to persist for more than an hour.

The department advised residents in the affected areas to remain alert for the risk of flash floods, falling trees and reduced visibility, particularly for those travelling during the warning period.

Thunderstorm warnings issued by MetMalaysia are short-term alerts and are valid for no more than six hours for each issuance.
