Bursa Malaysia ended the week on a softer note on Aug 7 as investors locked in gains following the recent rally, tracking cautious sentiment across regional markets.
At 5pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slipped 1.40 points, or 0.08%, to 1,735.75 from its previous trading session closing of 1,737.15.
The index traded between 1,729.34 and 1,739.14 during the session.
Broader market indicators also finished lower, with the FBM 70 falling 0.54% to 18,226.52, the FBM Emas easing 0.17% to 12,834.25 and the FBM Shariah declining 0.22% to 12,663.23.
Despite the softer close, market activity strengthened, with total turnover rising to 3.55 billion units worth RM3.47 billion compared to 3.24 billion units valued at RM2.9 billion on Aug 6.
Among the most actively traded counters, Perak Transit Bhd climbed four sen to 21.5 sen on 97.98 million shares trading, while Genetec Technology Bhd gained two sen to 39 sen on nearly 68.5 million shares.
HHRG Bhd rose 1.5 sen to 12 sen on 64.96 million shares and Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd edged half a sen higher to 34.5 sen with 59.51 million shares changing hand. Meanwhile, Zetrix AI Bhd, rounding up the top five most actively traded counters, slipped one sen to 70 sen on 50.18 million shares.
The softer finish capped a week in which profit-taking emerged after the market’s recent gains, leaving investors cautious heading into the next trading week.
