Hong Kong Stocks Close Higher As China Trade Beat Lifts Sentiment

Hong Kong stocks ended the trading session on Aug 7 higher, with the Hang Seng Index gaining 137.75 points, or 0.54%, to close at 25,668.03, as stronger-than-expected Chinese export data lifted market sentiment.

Turnover reached nearly HK$260 billion, while the Hang Seng Tech Index advanced 0.8% to 4,858 and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index added 0.4% to 8,531.

Healthcare and technology names featured prominently among the session’s top blue-chip performers. WuXi Biologics led Hang Seng constituents, surging 10.83% to HK$45.86, followed by Lenovo Group, which jumped 8.33% to HK$28.10. WuXi AppTec climbed 7.01% to HK$192.30, rounding out the top three gainers.

On the downside, WH Group was the worst-performing Hang Seng constituent, falling 3.10% to HK$7.97. Mengniu Dairy slipped 2.41% to HK$18.61, while Henderson Land Development shed 2.18% to HK$26.88.

The positive close came as mainland and Hong Kong markets took encouragement from China’s latest trade figures, with exports exceeding expectations and helping the Hang Seng recover from early weakness to finish near the session high.
